According to Stephen Colbert, “patents are a fast-track to money town.”  Global billion dollar tax-avoider Amazon agrees with him and that is why they applied for and were recently granted “a patent for photography against a white background.” Yes, that is right, Amazon have patented the idea of displaying things.

If anyone displays a product or anything else against a white background Amazon can sue that person for breach of their patent. Unused patents have generated $billions in legal fees and compensation payments and Amazon intends to cash in on this legal bonanza.
